HOW TO DO YOUR YEARLY CARD SPREAD

Blog post description.

Every year, I do a tarot card spread to get some insight into the energy I can expect. I pull my cards sometime between Aquarius and Aries season every year. You can also do it at the beginning of the year, and some prefer to pull the cards during their birthday month. Personally, I like to ease into it and do it in time before the new zodiac year, which starts with Aries season.

Here are some suggestions and inspiration for setting up a beautiful space for yourself and pulling the cards that lay the foundation for the next 12 months. ( I personally like to start to pull from January to see how the cards have resonated with me up until now, but do what resonates with you).

HOW TO DO YOUR YEARLY TAROT SPREAD

1: Pick your deck.

What deck feels right for you? Is it the classic tarot deck, is it a version of the tarot deck, maybe a herbal deck this year, or maybe you want to use a mix of two decks? Choose the decks that feel right and aligned with you.

2: Prepare and create your space.

Where do you wanna be? Is it gonna be in your home, where in your home? Do you want it to be outside, where do you want that to be? Do you want to do this alone or share it with loved ones? IMO, I feel that lighting up some candles, burning some incense and putting some tunes on does a lot. Candles, incense and a speaker/ headphones can be brought outside.

3: Prep your props and prepare a meditation and/or prayer.

You could either do a tea ceremony or a cacao ceremony, here is a recipe for the cacao I’ve prepared for the past years. If you want to try something a bit different, you can use a tea of your choice to connect. In short, in China, white tea symbolises purity. In Japan, green tea symbolises community and mindfulness. Pur-er tea from China is seen as quality and heritage. Black tea represents boldness and strength. You could blend a herbal tea and add some dried rose for love and heart opening, butterfly pea flowers for new intention or blue lotus for going deeper into the intuition. Use your imagination and it will turn out beautiful either way.

For a simple tea or caco ceremony you can use these steps as inspiration and from that create your own.

  • Intentionally drink the hot liquid and feel how it feels to drink it, connect with different body parts and/or chakras and feel them balancing out while you breathe deeply in and out and take sips.

  • Say a prayer of gratitude for being here and doing this for yourself and/or the people you chose to share your ceremony with, thank the cards you have chosen. Sit in stillness for a while. When you feel ready, open your eyes

  • Usually, for a basic yearly spread, you draw 12 cards, 1 card for each month and one additional card that represents the year as a whole. You can decide while you shuffle the cards if you want to pick them all in one go or if you feel like shuffling in between. I would, however, be clear and communicate with the cards what strategy you are using. Tune into the cards while you shuffle by repeating something along the lines "Dear cards, what can you tell me about the next 12 months"

Most important: If you feel like just doing it a bit spontaneously and not having all of this preparation, you could go for a walk and then sit down somewhere and say a little prayer for connecting with the cards. For me that was what aligned with me this year, I went for a walk, sat down on some vulcano rocks by the ocean, connected to the cards and lay them out.

Lastly: Read through the cards, have a closing prayer, incorporate some gratitude, and maybe journal around what showed up in the cards and what intentions you have for the next 12 months. Hope this gave you some inspiration to pull some cards.

Do you do a yearly card spread? What is your favourite part of the ritual?

Sending LOTS of love:
