IF I ONLY HAD STARTED....

I am currently in Taipei. The plan was to visit Yangminshan National Park today, which is a perfect day trip when in Taipei, but the weather is super gloomy. I woke up and didn’t feel like it and decided to get myself some Taiwanese breakfast, get to a nice cafe, and look at some adjustments for this blog. This won’t be the last time I’m here, In the past 12 months, I visited Taipei 3 times, so it’s safe to say I love spending time here and visiting Yangminshan is on my list.

I had in mind doing some edits to the layout for the blog and then writing a Taipei recommendation list, which I will, but as I looked into adding a comment section, I thought I would also create a WordPress, just to see if it’s easier to combine it with my webpage host. As I created my account, I found my old WordPress page, PUBLISHED: IDK how many years ago, maybe 12? I had totally forgotten. The name was: WHAT A GIRL WANT. No blog post, just a published blog with the logo.

There it was again, a sign. These signs we receive through our journeys. I couldn’t help but think: “Wow, that is a great name.” “ I bet someone has started this now” “ This would be amazing as a collum”. I often look to “others” seeing what they do and realise that it is their commitment over time, their commitment to stay consistent, doing all the small things that, over time, create the bigger picture. So maybe this blog is an extension of “WHAT A GIRL WANT”, maybe, this is the older self meeting the younger self. A wiser self. But still carrying the inner desires of WHAT A GIRL WANT.

And I think that is what I enjoy about writing a blog - you can write in the moment, you can write upon your reflections, it is such a free way of expressing yourself. I’ve been contemplating whether to start a podcast - because this girl loves to talk, then maybe a YouTube because this girl loves the interaction. But there's something to me that a blog will give that the other platforms simply won’t: the simplicity of just writing. I don’t have to open my mouth, I don’t have to take up my phone, I can even just write notes in my journal and then post it here when I feel like it and if I feel like it. The sensation of letting the fingers flow over the keyboard or letting the hand flow on the paper with a pen is simply a beautiful way of self-expression. Writing is, for me, a form of simplicity, where the words can be heavy and complex, soft yet powerful. Writing can be paired with visual inputs or stay strong alone.

The wisdom in this is: Start, just start, if it feels right, keep going. Because in the long run, the results will come, the small wins will be the big wins. If we don’t dare, we won’t know.
